Contrary to what you were told when you were growing up, it is perfectly acceptable to quit! You are doing things every day that are holding you back from the momentum, success, and confidence you desire in your Career, Business, and Leadership. I’d like you to quit right now! Yes, you heard me right – I want you to QUIT!

There are certain things that you need to stop doing if you want to achieve more success in your leadership and life. We all have bad habits that we need to break in order to move forward, and maybe you’re not seeing the progress you want because you’re stuck in some of these behaviors.

If that’s the case, it’s time for a change! In this article, I’ll discuss 10 things you need to stop doing right now if you want to create the life and career you’ve always dreamed of.

Quit focusing on what’s wrong.

This is a big one. When you’re constantly looking for things to criticize and finding fault in everything, it’s tough to be positive and productive. Because, if you are always focusing on what is going wrong, you are looking to bring more of the same to you. What you look for, you find. Instead, focus on the things that are going well and look for ways to improve upon them.

Quit thinking you have to do it all by yourself.

It’s impossible to do everything by yourself and trying will only lead to burnout. Ask for help when you need it and delegate tasks whenever possible. You’ll be surprised at how much easier things will become once you stop trying to do it all alone. Reach out to someone in your network for a helping hand. Two heads are better than one, and you will feel so much better having shared your burden (and no it doesn’t become their burden).

Quit comparing yourself to others.

This is a toxic habit that will only bring you down. When you’re constantly comparing yourself to others, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses and there’s no point in trying to be someone you’re not. Comparing yourself to someone else in business or career is like comparing apples and oranges. No one has the exact same set of circumstances. Pay attention to what is working for you and do more of it. Celebrate your accomplishments and focus on being the best version of yourself.

Quit filling your brain with negativity.

It’s hard to be positive when all you hear are negative thoughts rattling around in your head. If you want to be successful, you need to start training yourself to think more positively. But what are you feeding your brain? What do you watch? What do you read? What do you listen to? Nourish your mind by learning something new. Fill your mind with content that will help boost your confidence and give you the motivation to pursue your dreams.

Quit wasting time.

We all have 24 hours in a day and it’s up to us how we choose to use them. If you’re constantly wasting your time on things that don’t matter, you’ll never have enough hours in the day to do what you really want. Decide what is important and make a plan to prioritize it. Get an accountability partner to help you stick with it. What you permit you promote – make it the things that are most important to you!

Quit being too competitive.

Have you ever heard the saying “A rising tide lifts all boats?” When women step on, undermine, sabotage, or compete with other women, we all lose. When you’re always competing with others, you lose sight of your own goals. It’s important to be ambitious and strive for excellence, but there’s a fine line between competition and hostility. When women start to truly support other women, regardless of the outcome, is when strides for true equality will finally take off by leaps and bounds.

Quit doing things the same way when they obviously aren’t working.

If you’re not seeing the results you want, it’s time to try something different. If you’ve been working hard but aren’t making progress, it’s probably because you’re stuck in a rut, whether that be mental or emotional. Shake things up and try a new strategy. Brainstorm things you’d like to try but haven’t. Then pick one! You may be surprised at what a difference it makes. Besides, if you do what you’ve always done, you get what you’ve always gotten.

Quit blaming someone else for not getting what you want.

This is another toxic habit that will only hold you back from success. When you’re always looking for someone to blame, you’re not taking responsibility for your own actions. Envision you pointing a finger at someone else. Where are the remaining three fingers pointed? That’s where the responsibility lies. You can put your energy into creating the result that you want or you can put it into the “reasons” why you don’t have it. Own your mistakes and learn from them instead of trying to place the blame elsewhere.

Quit meandering and start taking action!

This is another big one. When you don’t take action, you can’t achieve your goals. Sitting around and waiting for things to happen is a surefire way to fail. You need to take action and put in the hard work if you want to see results, even if the action is related to your thoughts. When I finally got that my mindset was the biggest thing holding me back in my career and life, it was a game-changer. I was meandering up and until that point. Now I live my life with intention and I know I’m truly responsible for the progress I’ve made and also the setbacks I’ve endured. You have far more influence than you know. First, however, you’ve got to know what you want. Have a goal, a plan, direction, or strategy.

Quit playing small.

This is probably the biggest mistake anyone can make when it comes to achieving success. When you play small, you’re not reaching your full potential. You’re settling for less than what you deserve and that’s not good enough. We shrink because we don’t want people to think we are “too big for our britches.” We don’t want to make it all about us. We don’t want to make others feel bad. If you don’t embrace what is truly inside of you, you diminish your capacity. You are disrespecting yourself, the people you were put on this Earth to help, and the higher power who put you here (whether that is God, The Universe, The Collective, or whatever you choose to label it). Aim high and shoot for the stars. You may be surprised at what you’re capable of when you put your mind to it.

These are just a few of the things that you need to stop doing if you want to achieve success in life and your career. It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it. So make a commitment to yourself today and start making the changes that will help you get the Clarity and the results you deserve!
